Homework helper: Consistency is the key

If you set aside a regular time every day to do your homework (assignments, essays, reports, dissertations, projects even a thesis) you are more likely to stick to it. But you need to get into a routine at the beginning of the term / year for this to get the full benefit.

Regardless of how you feel about the subject(s) it is so very important to sit down at the designated time and to start work on whatever it is. If you think that is completely irrational, consider this minor point. When you join the workforce proper, there will be days you don't want to be there and tasks you don't want to do and complete. And anyone who tells you otherwise is being a little economical with the truth. Every day, millions of people head into work, they have a set time to start and finish, and usually a set time for breaks. They have routines that generally work ok. It is consistent and unless there are any major glitches - computer crashes, road works, traffic snarl ups or  illness there will be few changes to the major part of their routines.

Then when they get home, these same people will also have a set evening routine. For me, I exchange one computer office for another. I turn the home computer on even if I don't want to. Then I get on with whatever work needs to be done.

So, students, kids and people who are in the higher education system - treat your school time and your homework time as you would if you were being paid to do it. It is your "job" so to speak, because if you think about it, this is a major reference for when you do get a "job" isn't it.

Am I saying that you shouldn't stop and party, or have some social time? No of course not, but everything has its place and if your homework was your job - then you would need to work on that before being "paid". For you, the pay off is many fold - good grades means a better uni, better jobs after it, and of course the knowledge and the discipline that you did a "good job".

So, consistency is the key to ensuring you have time to do your homework. Do your alloted time every day and you won't be struggling to finish things. And just think, when your mates are sweating about the fact they've still got assignments to do, you can get on with your other activities.
